“Nature is healing.”
It’s been the caption of the week as punters share their beer garden pints of stout on social media. It’s a joke that’s wearing thin but we’re behind the sentiment — a throwback to the well-meaning but overused phrase last year when the lack of planes, cars and urban noise brought an unexpected serenity amid all the turmoil.
But the natural state of affairs in Ireland is socialising, and this week we’re finally able to wake up and smell the coffee somewhere else other than our kitchens. OK, we can only do this at outside tables for now, but this time next month we’ll hopefully be going through the biggest stage yet of getting back to our ‘old normal’ — safely meeting in small groups in our favourite coffee shops, pubs and restaurants. INSIDE!
But for now, who says outside is bad? We’ve been promised a potential warmest June on record. Now, we shouldn’t put all our faith in so-called weather experts, but let’s just run with it. We can still meet each other for a walk in the park with a takeaway coffee or one brewed from home — have you tried our coffee bags for a brew & go option? We can still have a few mates over to the garden when we have a few hours of sunshine — and maybe push the boat out with your own cold brew to cool down.
But as the weeks go by we now have more options, and after months of uncertainty and boredom that’s a bigger pick-me-up than a double espresso in the morning! It’s time to get back to supporting our local hospitality businesses as we hopefully turn the corner. Many have been desperately shut for nearly a year and a half, and many have supported independent companies like ours for over a year.
So we raise our beer garden pint, our real mug Americano and our ever-faithful takeaway cup to all the businesses reopening — and we’ll see you inside soon!
In the meantime, enjoy the outside — we’ve all got quite used to it by now.
